This class will combine a short Sketchup refresher along with a work flow concept of making a small face frame cabinet.  Don't worry if you've never used Sketchup or made a cabinet - there should be something for everyone - well hopefully.

The Sketchup portion will be using the basic tools found in Sketchup to draw a basic face frame cabinet.  If you are like me, the more I see of a program in use the better it sticks in my brain.  For those who saw the earlier classes the majority of the commands will certainly be familiar and should be a good refresher.  If you are brand new to Sketchup, it will still be interesting to you to see the power and speed the program offers the woodworker.  I'll add a couple of new tools to show how to tip up a cabinet once it is drawn and how to draw repetitive tasks such as shelf pin holes in the sides of your cabinet.  I will limit this portion of the class so it doesn't take up more than half the time.  As always - I will certainly be available after class if you're interested in more information about getting started with Sketchup.

The cabinet assembly portion will demonstrate perhaps a different approach to box assembly for some.  Last year I built my first complete kitchen for my son's new house.  I had a good friend who is a professional help me in the process and I have to say he improved my fit and finish immensely with his advice.  The idea is to build the cabinet from the face frame up rather than from the carcass out.  This concept offers a cleaner transition for the face frame to sides while using well disguised fasteners.  Don't worry - you won't need a truckload of clamps for the glue-up either.  It will also hopefully help improve those shelf to face frame transitions that use to drive me nuts using my old method.
