You must use a standard 8 foot long 'store bought' type 2x4 (also known as a tubafor). If you can buy a purpleheart 2x4 locally then you can use it. Otherwise, you're probably limited to pine and fir. You can embellish your project with up to 25% of other stuff, but NOT OTHER WOODS. Only the wood from the 2x4 can be used. That means no plywood (unless you've found an 8 foot plywood 2x4). Categories are different for this challenge. Since this is the fifth year for our 2x4 Challenge the categories continue to be: Most Imaginative, Most Technically Challenging, and Most Utilitarian (meaning you can actually use the item for what it was designed for). You still have to declare your category.
